A Brief History of The Patio GardenPlanet earth is a
garden. That said
we all know that Earth did
not originally have concrete
sidewalks and asphalt roads.
Humans did not live in
houses, but rather caves and
then tents.
The first humans lived in
a garden. Just imagine
the cascading waterfalls,
beautiful rock formations,
flowers, fruits, nuts and
other foods. In
essence all of nature is one
large patio environment.
When man moved out
of the caves and tents into
permanent housing, patios
were a natural extension of
the home, as were gardens of
vegetables, herbs, fruit and
so forth.
As a matter of fact, one
of the seven wonders of the
world is the hanging gardens
of Babylon depicted above in our header in
a etching by Dutch artist
Martin Heemskerck. According
to legend the gardens did
not actually hang but rather
they were planted onto
terraces by King
Nebuchadneazzar for his wife
who was homesick for the natural
surroundings of her
homeland. This was in
600 B.C. perhaps one of the
first modern age garden patios.
It is natural for humans
to want to bring the
outdoors into the indoor
environment that we all live
in. It is just as natural
for humans to want to
entertain or spend time
outside. That is what we
intend to help you do here
at gardenpatio.com,
provide you with the ideas,
knowledge and materials to
create these natural spaces
and gardens.

Before indoor
climate control, the outside
of the house was used almost
as much as the inside.
Indoor flooring consisted of
bricks or planks of wood to
keep the dirt and mud out of
the house. Now these
materials are used to create
areas outside the home in
which to relax or entertain.
In addition to these natural
materials there are a
multitude of faux products
made of plastics and other
materials that emulate
natural materials. Some of
these faux materials are
actually eco friendly as
they are made from recycled
material such as seat belts
used to make chairs. There are also accessories
to control the climate on
your outdoor patios or
porches such as outdoor patio heaters of various styles.
